Is there a plan or research to shrink the blockchain DB?

The blockchain db file blockchain_v1_mainnet.sqlite is ~30GB by now, and is growing quite fast.
Is there any plan or research to make it smaller in future?

Even if disk space is not a big problem for Chia miners, it still seems very large for its age (~half a year).
After more apps built on Chia network, transactions may grow more frequent so the DB will grow even faster, so starting new nodes will get more difficult and to impratical.
