Combo box displayed behind nodes in nodes v2

What happened?

I think this bug is pretty obvious so I'm not sure how this went through. Maybe it's already reported too but I didn't find it, so here I am:

Combo boxes are displayed behind other nodes when opened:

Steps to Reproduce

1. Open any workflow template
2. Click on a combo box to open it
3. Make sure you have nodes nearby so that the box displays behind them

Hi @alexisrolland! I'm Dosu and I’m helping the ComfyUI_frontend team.

This is a known bug in the latest ComfyUI frontend: combo box dropdowns can appear behind nodes because node containers get dynamically higher z-index values as they're brought to the front, while dropdown overlays use a fixed z-index (like z-50). This mismatch means dropdowns sometimes get obscured by nodes with higher stacking order, especially in Chrome/Chromium. The issue is tracked in several open tickets and is not caused by custom nodes or extensions—it’s a regression from recent frontend updates that changed node layering but didn’t update dropdown overlay z-index accordingly (#7131, #6994, #6913, #7191, #4017).

Workarounds that sometimes help: switch to Firefox or Edge, disable browser extensions, clear your cache, reset Chrome font size, or manually increase the z-index for the dropdown popover via custom CSS (for example, add .p-popover { z-index: 9999 !important; } to your user CSS). Resizing the window or toggling docking can temporarily reset UI layering, but there’s no universal fix yet (source).

A permanent fix would require frontend code changes to dynamically set the dropdown overlay’s z-index higher than any node’s z-index. The relevant Vue components are FormDropdown.vue, FormDropdownInput.vue, and FormDropdownMenu.vue (source). Maintainers are aware and discussing solutions, but there’s no timeline for a fix yet.
