How to close a specific Popup V2

I'm trying to migrate my code to the newer Popup V2 mechanism, but I don't understand how to properly close popups.

Previously I would create an instance of a Popup, and call Close() on that specific instance. Now I don't seem to have such an option. I can call e.g. Shell.Current.ClosePopup(), but I don't know which popup that is. I seem to completely have lost any reference to the popup. It seems I have no guarantee that I'm not meddling in a popup "owned" by a completely different view.

I fear situations like this:

• A camera based barcode scanner that can run in a popup view
• A notification triggered by background task that asks the user to choose between Foo and Bar.

1. User opens the barcode scanner
2. Due to something in the background, the user is prompted in a popup to choose between Foo and Bar.
3. User tries to tap Foo, but accidentally aims the camera at a barcode.
4. Barcode scanner scans the barcode.
5. Choice popup is accidentally closed by barcode scanner. (Should have closed its own popup instead)
6. App crashes as the choice popup was closed, but no value was chosen, which is not possible.

I feel like I've misunderstood something fundamental about how the new popup mechanism works, but I haven't found yet how it's supposed to make sense.

I'm not very happy with the new Popup component. It's very buggy. In our production app we run into random, seemingly uncatchable, errors due to "ArgumentException: Ambiguous route" when two popups are opened at the same time and then one is closed. I tried to write a minimal reproduction scenario, which failed to reproduce it, but instead showed another bug. In this case the first popup opened could not be closed by tapping the backdrop any more. It seems a CollectionViews don't handle tap events correctly in Popups on iOS. We also see a lot of random Popup related crashes on iOS that we haven't managed to pin down yet.

I fully accept that the Popup changes have not been as stable as we would have liked. I've been away for a bit but I'm back and keen to see if I can tidy things up now.

For the second issue you mentioned I believe this has been resolved here CommunityToolkit/Maui#2971

As for the other issue, I will try to read through your full post this week and see if I can provide any insight
