Legendarium

Fall of Society

An alternate timeline of 1990s history that follows the coming of age of a group of small town misfits through a series of technological, spiritual and societal revolutions and into a post apocalyptic version of the world.

The Order of Chaos

The emergence of a counter culture in society and a dangerous religious cult bubbling under the surface of it.

  • Largely centered around small rural towns.
  • Mostly authentic 90s nostalgia.
  • These stories are almost entirely possible events that could really have occurred. Most metaphysical or supernatural suggestions are theoretical or could be explained by drug use, mental illness or other forms of unreliable narrative.
  • Events that clearly deviate from 90s history are non-local and do not affect the story directly (news reports, urban legends, brief side stories).
  • There will be moments where the main characters intersect with some of these events, but the reader will be able to assume that there is a scientific explanation or that the implications are to be downplayed. The impact will be initially discreet. Only trace amounts of curiosity will be embedded.
  • Most of this part of the saga heavily criticizes traditions, religion, demonizes authority in all institutions: police, teachers, parents, preachers. They rebel against real corruption, persecution, rape, violence. It starts to shapes up like a solid leftist militant anthem but we're building up to something nuanced.
  • They gain a lot of perspective when they spend some time in the city. It takes them out of self destruct mode to understand how small the people who hurt them are and how many awesome people there actually are if you get out of your town and party with an entire scene of offbeat community. They collect themselves and refactor their efforts.

Revolution of the Monkey

A series of events that serve as a catalyst for large scale political and social upheaval.

  • Focusing more on urban society and city life.
  • The cult emerges as an ant Christian terrorist movement. The counter culture finds itself in an unexpected alliance with traditional religious groups and cultures.
  • Breakthrough advancement in physics, neural networks, nuclear power, and space exploration occur early, slingshotting the 90s into a futuristic version of itself.
  • The counter culture makes contact with extra-dimensional entities through a small scale hyper localized information conduit.

Year of the Dragon

The aftermath of a cataclysmic world changing climax resulting from the revolution.

  • Set in a post apocalyptic version of the world.
  • The struggles that were set up early on find a completely new way to manifest.
  • Due to a failure to align with cosmic evolutionary civilization measurement dimensions, humanity is cut off from the inter dimensional information conduit. We're on our own.
  • Post apocalypse earth becomes a cosmic prison. Exiles from other dimensions begin to arrive as they are banished from the universal consciousness.
  • Those who have access to space exploration technology leave earth to establish colonies on other worlds in attempt to mine and terraform the solar system.
  • Survivors begin to gather the corpus of human knowledge and rebuild technology from the rubble.
  • The nihilistic atheist death cult re-emerges as the leader's ai is discovered in the ruins of a data center. His followers construct a robotic chassis for him to embody, effectively resurrecting him. The robot is fused with a culture of tissues constructed using samples of his dna. Unconstrained by human mortality cycles, he continues to advance beyond the limits of his previous manifestation.

Legends of the Void

A series of epic myths spanning from creation to revelation in a universe of magic and fantasy that follows a diverse landscape of cultures of different monsters, devils, wraiths, and the humans that they interact with: underpinned by a mysterious magical force of light and wisdom that appears to bleed through and influence the inherent wickedness that seems to dominate existence almost purely.

The exploits of Johnny Hawthorn, a monster hunting adventurer for hire, determined to solve the mystery of his tortured past and avenge his parents' death.

  • Many of these tales are episodic with the occasional canonical reveal.
  • There are multiple spinoffs that tie back into cannon eventually.
  • His prime nemesis is finally Alex Crowley, a black magic sorcerer with a roadmap to contact powerful entities from the spectral plane and use their technologies to evolve into the ultimate configuration of baphomet, thus achieving abscess ibis status over all magical entities.

Jack Morris and the Whitechapel Devil Slayers

  • The prime nemesis is Murdock, a powerful and influential vampire who serves as a Dracula figure. He worships Dracula himself with plans to unleash the next evolution of the dark lord in hopes to gain status as his lieutenant in an army of darkness that would plague and ultimately subjugate humanity forever.

Video Visions: Paranormal Investigations and TV/VCR Repair

  • Gus runs a video rental store. His business also repairs video and audio equipment. He has access to a lot of electronics equipment, tools and supplies. He has a collection of rare tapes, including information about strange phenomena. His focus is to develop instruments and equipment and discover new knowledge to explain things like ghosts. He believes that the truth is out there and he aims to find it.

  • Sidney is more intuitive and spiritual. She seeks to understand things without waiting for the validation of science. Her focus is more on reading about and practicing wisdom and teachings from the ancient mystery schools. She believes that real truth is within. She aims to delve deeper.

  • Together they use a combination of scientific and spiritual techniques to discover patterns and make predictions about the cases that they investigate.

  • They have a modified radio that they use to try and tune in to events in alternate timelines. They use it to augment a ritual of prayer and meditation. There are two categories of techniques: configuration and signaling. Configuration is where the cognitive agent provides an intuition about what coordinates and frequencies to start listening on. Signaling is where information is gathered and analyzed and presented to the cognitive to make adjustments to their intuition about the configuration.

Other devices and equipment include:

  • A reverser, like in hell house. Attempts to neutralize spectral energy. While this dismissive theory on paranormal activity does not account for the soul and personality of some of the more severe cases, the technology does have value in that it can temporarily weaken spirits usually to the point of being completely harmless. And many cases have little to no soul or personality, so the machine can be effective as designed prov
