Does not load sample if unicode character present in file path

I have the same symptoms as the issue 223.
I can point to the sample files with the file browser but no one shows up loaded in any module’s interface.
This problem occurs when an Unicode character is present in the file path, such as:
/home/meuser/DJ-Leguipo/Échantillons/BD.wav
Replacing "É" with "E" makes it work.

Affects at least Cardinal Native and LV2 versions.
