Introduction

Dear all,

we are very happy to announce that we will finally have a dash.js face-to-face meeting again. We will meet on June 23, 2025 in Berlin!

The dash.js face-to-face meeting is being hosted by Fraunhofer FOKUS in Berlin, and is co-located with the Media Web Symposium. The FOKUS Media Web Symposium (MWS) is an annual international conference organized by Fraunhofer FOKUS hosting 200+ participants from all over the world discussing Internet based media delivery.

On last years agenda, under "Other discussion items" there was an item for "Seamless multiperiod transition for unencrypted to encrypted content".

We're investigating multi-period DASH for pre-roll and post-roll content (sizzle, credits, etc). I've noticed a prolonged pause in playback while the player tries to fetch the DRM license for the main content.

I haven't seen meeting minutes from last years f2f. Was seamless transition discussed and is it being addressed in v5?

There is more information in this issue: #4396. The scenario described in the issue is still not "fixed" and open.

Hi,
@dsilhavy as we already discussed in the past months, one item would be to refactor the fetch requests module.
The idea would be to rely exclusively on fetch API for every requests (as currently only used for low latency CTE) and to refactor what has been achieved in the FetchLoader to optimize, fix and make it more modular especially to ease throughput calculation in case of CTE.
The idea would be also to externalize and centralize this fetch module in the CommonMediaLibrary with the ultimate intention to enable applications to override and customize the fetching of the segments (e.g. P2P).
