ldap_bind(): Unable to bind to server: Can't contact LDAP server.

Please can you help I keep getting this error, ldap_bind(): Unable to bind to server: Can't contact LDAP server. Error Code: [-1]?
however I know the credentials work as I can use the terminal and get a result.
I am using an env configuration. but still not able to connect.
please could you advise.
