Fix cross-platform tests and usability issues.

Current compilation of CVector is not very userfriendly. The top level makefile should pull all dependencies and install all necessary libraries.
The check framework we are using is currently not compatible across various versions of Ubuntu and Linux in general. This should be fixed.
