J2CL and DominoKit

Hi, I'm new to J2CL and DominoKit. Is DominoKit based on J2CL? Do I need to know J2CL to use DominoKit? Is knowing J2CL helpful at all?

I am using Domino-UI with GWT. This works pretty well. J2CL is the successor of GWT. It has removed some things we had in GWT (f.e. generators) Domino-UI is using annotation processors instead of generators. So, I assume, it can be used with J2CL & GWT. I think @vegegoku will be able to answer this question more precisely.
Well, the important things to know is Java and few things you need to avoid writing code that should be transpiled with GWT or J2CL. There are a lot example how to do things.

I've just found out that the standard way to create a DominoKit project is with domino-cli, which offers this option:

-c, --compiler=<compiler>  The Java to JavaScript compiler to be used possible values [gwt, j2cl] default is [gwt].

Are there any benefits to specifying j2cl? Why is gwt the default?

Dominokit in general supports both j2cl and GWT, we test more regularly with GWT than with j2cl, but we take feedback on both.

and from dominokit side there is no difference between using j2cl or GWT outside the difference between j2cl and GWT themselves.

Using one over the other depends on your use case, knowledge and preference.
