Associative word linking behaves poorly with non-unique words - bug

As it says in the title, the ability to enter an associative word linking to another word will often misbehave if you have multiple words that are written the same as the one you want to select. Sometimes, it will cooperate and link to the word you selected. However, that seems to happen less often than the selection box picking the first word (starting from the top of the lexicon list order) to match to instead. I don't know what causes this on the back-end, or what could be done to address this.
