Colab not working

Hey guys,

the Google Colab script doesn't currently work (see log; the main issue seems to be that "The file /content/ebook2audiobook/lib/functions.py was not found.", however odds are that other errors occur after getting past that i.e. regarding CUDA.

I think this a compatibility issue.

The script needs to be updated.

I've managed to run it today on Google Colab, but not without some manual tweaks to the script and to the package versions for compatibility reasons.

I've managed to run it successfully after installing the following package:

• FastAPI 0.123.0

Sadly my free Python3 T4 GPU quota ran out without me really using it, after about 2 hours into 2.5-3% conversion.

The following package is incompatible with CUDA (so, because of it, I couldn't convert using the GPU):

• Torch 2.7.1

Obviously I've made a few changes to the script, to make it skip the repository cloning step and to ignore the “requirements.txt” file, so that I could run the program right away without messing up with my manual corrections or adjustments.

I didn't know I could run Google Colab locally, so I'll try it later and if I can I'll provide further details, about how one can more easily fix this, so that it works properly right out the box.

Still some work to be done, but I guess I'll get there.

What I did was just a workaround: next time we'd have to update the requirements.txt to the most recent versions that are stable and compatible with each other (more important than updating to the most recent version available, is to guarantee that every single package is fully compatible with each other).

That way the program will work as expected.

The CPU on colab is just SO SLOW that it makes it almost pointless :/

The CPU is at least 9 times slower than GPU.

Apparently the GPU not working issue seems to be related to the torch/torchaudio version being used, which the GUI or WebUI reports as being the issue for the GPU to not be able to be used for rendering audio.

I have to try connecting to a server with a GPU to test it.

I can guarantee it's working on Google Colab right now.

I'm only running through a CPU server, as I can keep running it for longer without getting back to square one.

Here's what I do:

• I connect to a Google Colab server (currently CPU only)
• I open the Terminal, run "apt update && apt upgrade" command and let it finish
• Using the Terminal: I install the "jedi" version 0.16.0 with "pip install -U jedi==0.16.0" (it's required by iphyton version that's installed)
• I run the installing/running script for Ebook2Audiobook and let it finish
• Using the Terminal again: I run the command "pip check" to make sure there are no incompatibilities
• If there's no incompatibilities and package versions to reinstall, I proceed and run an adapted script I've tweaked to bypass the git cloning and the requirements.txt verification process, so that the Ebook2Audiobook program, runs right away, without having to go through the installing process once again and breaking everything that was apparently fixed or solved by me, in order to bypass the repo cloning and requirements.txt installation execution steps.

That's basically it.
