Description
CISM is now testing with the AIS as well as both AIS and GIS. This is an important part of CISM development, so exercising is an important thing to start doing.
I asked @Katetc about this and this is her reply:
Yes, we do several tests for AIS in the aux_glc suite, and we can run Antarctica in CESM, but there are still some scientific questions surrounding the subsurface ocean forcing that need to be worked out for it to be supported in a fully coupled situation. All that to say, adding a test to make sure that the technological support we have developed so far is still working with your development is a really good idea.
I was thinking on adding this one:
That's a good test. I like that it covers the double-ice sheet infrastructure as well. You could do Ly1 or Ly2 if 4 is too long.
assume GIS will be fully supported with cases run with it. But, what will the level of support be for AIS?
We are working to spin up GRIS and have it very well supported with CESM3. I think AIS will be on the back burner until we finalize the ocean coupling infrastructure. The group at NORESM have been working on this, so it might come sooner than we think, but not before the release of CESM3. Maybe something more like CESM3.2.
Also, FYI, I did a little cleanup as part of a ccs_config PR this week and removed some old aliases that used the "_gl4" grid nomenclature. I don't know if CLM uses this at all, but if you do, it's time to move to "gris4" instead!
Thanks!
Kate
So I'll add a 2 year test of the above to aux_clm.
