ESMValTool Monthly Meeting February

Hey everyone,

I'll be taking over the monthly meetings for some time, but I'm looking for a co-organizer, preferably in Australian or Canadian timezones to handle non-european friendly meeting times.

• @malininae wants to ask about licensing and publishing their tool being developed based on esmvaltool

• @malininae asks about how to best get reviewers for Pull requests: always best to ping someone directly. Also look at documentation https://docs.esmvaltool.org/en/latest/community/review.html

• @bouweandela NLeSC working on C3S attribution service asking ECCC (@malininae) what they are doing with their code for that. -> collaboration encouraged between the two groups

• @sloosvel Core feature freeze 11th February, Tool estimated around the 25th ESMValCore v2.12.0 release ESMValCore#2653

• @k-a-webb writing recipes, can't reuse preprocessor in the same block, could this be added, will open an issue

• REF: @bouweandela introduces REF framework (https://wcrp-cmip.org/cmip7/rapid-evaluation-framework/, Collection of CMIP7 REF recipes ESMValTool#3824) , beta available in May, release in November. REF github: https://github.com/CMIP-REF/ ; encouraged to not put in NCL diagnostics and recipes to be future proof. Aim to have PRs merged into main by the end of this month. @malininae says details on requirements and questions for diagnostics for REF are in the model benchmarking teams Only Office. @valeriupredoi asked about how the python package for the REF will work, combined conda package for everything? Offers help for technical issues.

• @malininae asked about publishing shapefiles that are slightly modified. @bouweandela suggested to check the licence to see if it can be republished and then publishing on Zenodo

• Still looking for a secondary helper for the meetings.
