We value the participation of every member of our community and want to ensure an that every contributer has an
17+
enjoyable and fulfilling experience. Accordingly, everyone who participates in any
18+
HillEnvironmentalModelling Lab project is expected to show respect and courtesy to other community members at all time.
19+
Science is hard, and the work of making sure science isn't harder than it needs to be is on all of us. We create our culture
20+
and our culture is inclusive.

21+
22+

Jon Hill as head of the Lab, and all lab members, are dedicated to a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless
23+
of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age or
24+
religion. We do not tolerate harassment by and/or of members of our community in any form.

25+
26+

We are particularly motivated to support new and/or anxious collaborators, people who are looking to learn and
27+
develop their skills, and anyone who has experienced discrimination in the past.

28+
29+

To make clear what is expected, we ask all members of the community to conform to the following Code of Conduct.

30+
31+

All communication - online and in person - should be appropriate for a professional audience including people of many
32+
different backgrounds. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate at any time.

33+
34+

Be kind to others. Do not insult or put down other contributers.

35+
36+

Behave professionally. Remember that harassment and sexist, racist, or exclusionary jokes are not appropriate.

37+
38+

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance,
39+
body size, race, religion, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing
40+
photography or recording, sustained disruption of discussions, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual
41+
attention.

42+
43+

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

44+
45+

Members of the community who violate these rules - no matter how much they have contributed to the
46+
HillEnvironmentalModelling lab, or how specialised their skill set - will be approached by Jon Hill.
47+
If inappropriate behaviour persists after a discussion with Jon, formal processes in line with the
48+
University of York's procedures will commence.

49+
50+

To report an issue please contact Jon Hill. All communication will be treated as confidential. If you
51+
do not feel comfortable contacting Jon directly, feel free to use the anonymous Departmental suggestions
52+
box or the electronic equivalent.

53+
54+

Flexible working hours

55+
56+

The exact hours that members of the lab choose to work is up to them, but each lab member should be on campus
57+
between the hours of 10am and 4pm most days. We are each welcome to send work-related emails or pull
58+
requests over the weekend or late at night, but no lab members are required to reply to them outside of their
59+
typical work hours.

60+
61+

Lab members are welcome to work flexibly for any reason within the guidelines set by their contract and University policy.
62+
Ideally, all lab members will have at least a few hours each week to overlap with each other and working 10am to
63+
4pm as core hours will facilitate that.

64+
65+

If you experience any challenges related to flexible working within the lab please contact Jon Hill. All communication
66+
will be treated as confidential.
