Attaching MS Excel and MS Word files to GeoPortal records

Is there a method or practice to attach a MS Excel spreadsheet or MS Word Document to a Geoportal record or entry ?

hi, this would be possible by putting the document in some web accessible place and then registering the URL to that place with metadata in Geoportal Server
