I don't know why. Using EssentialsX gives people a feeling that it is old. I asked the domestic translator of the plug-in. He said that it is not allowed to modify the language files, messages_zh.properties which is "illegal translation", so I think you should change it.
More colors should be added in the default. You can try to change some reasonable color combinations instead of traditional & 6 to make the plug-in more consistent with the current visual aesthetics.
