i think lance, polars, and huggingface blogs are hosted on their respective websites, whereas our blogs are via substack.

unfortunately this is a limitation on substack's end:
"Currently, Substack does not offer the option to expand the homepage layout to the full width of the browser window. The layout options available are designed to optimize readability and visual appeal across various devices, but they adhere to fixed width settings."

but i agree that there is too much whitespace and the center layout is a bit narrow

future: maybe a quick solution we can do (while maintaining substack at the same time to keep our subscribers) is to build an independent blog page on the daft website, have boxes for each blog, and then redirect to the substack blog. will keep thinking about it!
