Description
I had a poster at the MLZ User Meeting recently and asked the people to complement the "sub-graph" of neutron techniques in PaNET by adding sticky notes.
I had an overwhelming amount of 30 comments, which I want to share with you. This is mostly for your information, without any direct action imposed. I try to group the comments for a better overview
New techniques
scanning positron microscopy- GISANS =
gracing incidence small angle neutron scattering half-polarized diffraction(purpose: magnetic susceptibility)neutron imagingneutron tomography- add relationship to
high-resolution neutron imaging neutron diffraction tomography
TOF neutron diffractionneutron Laue diffraction;x-ray Laue diffraction; investigate the actual definitions for x-ray and neutrons, for neutron supposedly a white beam techniquetotal neutron diffraction(purpose:determine magnetic structure)PDF(pair distribution function) for powder samplesΔ-PDFfor single crystals
- time-resolved ...
- imaging
- ...
LARMOR, mainly for single crystals; niche topic for powder samplesLARMOR diffraction(high angular resolution)
MIEZE; subclass ofspin echo,TOF; purpose: magnetismhot neutron single crystal diffractionneutron activation analysisdiffuse neutron scatteringneutron spectroscopytriple axis neutron spectroscopy
spherical neutron polarimetryquasi-monochromatic beam(for neutrons) =pink beam(for x-rays)transmutationas subclass ofmanufacturing- subclass:
neutron activation analysis - subclass:
prompt gamma activation analysis
- subclass:
- pulsed vs continuous source; pulsed beam can also be produced by continuous source plus chopper
New energies
hot neutrons; part ofepithermal neutronsfusion neutrons; purpose: testing material for fusion powerultra cold neutrons
Updating Information
- rename
spin echo scatteringtospin echo spectroscopy - pulsed neutron TOF is unconnected to other TOF techniques
neutron powder diffractionunconnected; connect to subclass:high resolution thermal neutron powder diffractionspin echo:- add relationship to SANS
- subclass of
cold neutron spectrosocpy
Misc
- include particle physics: neutron/antineutron and positron research
coherenceis property of a probe;elasticityis part of scattering; consult HERCULES books- XFEL vs synchrotron research: same technique, but different nature of information
neutron imagingis not part ofneutron scattering, everything else is
