1. Navigate to staging.new.expensify.com
2. Go to any chat
3. Tap on compose box and paste copied link

Expected Result:

Copied link should be pasted to compose box

Actual Result:

No action is triggered when user tap on "paste" option in compose box

Copied link from sharing options paste empty string.

What is the root cause of that problem?

We have a custom paste handler in live markdown, which gets the text by getData('text/plain'), but it's empty. Turns out, the copied link is put into text/uri-list data (ref).

What changes do you think we should make in order to solve the problem?

We need to update the paste handler in live markdown codebase to fallback to text/uri-list data. We can use url to get the first url from the list.

When copying from Safari’s context menu, the type of text stored in clipboardData is uri-list, while the handlePastePlainText function only handles text/plain.

What changes do you think we should make in order to solve the problem?

The formats supported by clipboardData?.getData go beyond just text/html and text/plain — there are many others, such as:
- text/uri-list
- text/rtf
- text/css
- text/csv
- text/tab-separated-values
- text/markdown
- ...

To resolve this issue, we can first use text/uri-list as a fallback for text/plain in handlePastePlainText. In the long term, we could iterate through all supported formats to avoid similar bugs in the future.
