indeed, but that shouldn't be a requirement. it only works for basic crafting tables, but not crafting upgrades for traveller's backpacks or the ae2 crafting terminal. addons exist that aim to support those, but they seem to be entirely broken at the moment. it's not a permanent solution to this issue.
ultimately polymorph exists because sometimes large modpacks will add recipes conflicting with each other, but a single mod having a recipe conflict with base vanilla is pretty bad imo.

making this recipe just be a full grid of 9 planks into 9 panels would be a simple solution.
