Has Figma-Linux Been Discontinued?

Hello! I would like to know if the Figma-Linux project has been discontinued. Figma has released new updates recently, but this unofficial version hasn't received any updates to keep up with the official release. This was the only solution I found that I could use on Debian via Termux with proot. Is there any information about upcoming maintenance or support for this project?

I think the maintainers don't have time to work on the project, since it's been stalled for over a year.

It's up to someone interested in continuing its maintenance from here on out. I'd like to be able to move forward with this idea, but for now I don't have the necessary knowledge to do so.

I would like to strongly encourage anyone with the skills or the maintainers (if they are still around) to please continue working on this project.

This tool is crucial for many of us who are trying to build a workflow completely independent of Windows or macOS. For Linux users.

Without updates to match Figma's recent changes, we are losing a vital bridge to professional design tools on open-source operating systems. If the original maintainers are unable to continue, perhaps we can pin a call for new contributors or a fork?

Thank you for all the work done so far. We really need this to stay alive!

Yep... probably worth of creating a fork, no signs of life from author.
Electron core is heavily outdated. Themes... are cool but each of them contain tradeoffs, with bad layers selection indication or layer name text inputs on working area are not possible to read. Disabling it make it usable.

And need to find a way open internal/external links inside app. Now it's weird when I click on link on component to view design system and it sends me to browser.

BTW Figma in Chromium works noticeably faster, but lacks of comfortable ui :)

Since the program has gone more than a year without updates, the codebase is outdated, and when logging into Figma a warning appears saying it needs to be updated.​
The latest Figma features no longer show up for me when using the Figma-Linux version, only in the web version, which does not support system fonts.

I would also like to continue with the project, but I do not have the necessary knowledge to build such a solution. I know it uses Electron for Figma-Linux to work and that it is possible to generate this using a terminal command, but that is like creating a PWA, which does not have direct support for detecting system fonts.

Interesting. I had a bit another experience. Since I use CachyOS (Arch based) I installed figma-linux from AUR https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/figma-linux-bin, yep via terminal, but in any way it is single command install. I can collaborate freely, have access to Figma Make and other stuff. Prototyping works as usual, and Noise and Glass effects present. So I can't say that something is missing. My biggest concerns were about performance in comparison with Figma opened Chromium browser and internal links that opened in browser instead of tab in app, when I tried to access design library from component.

Funny that I was able to edit my work files with SanFrancisco fonts, on Linux. But unable do it in MacOS because of missing fonts before i installed their official SF font package 😂

I don't know what situation on other distros and package formats like .deb .apt .flatpak .appimage.

On Debian in Termux, the font helper does not work because of systemd, whereas with figma-linux, what changed is that at the time I used it, the login worked, I was able to open the editor, but Figma sent an alert to update the program, probably because Figma assumed it was the Windows or Mac version. I also noticed that at some moments the editor would not load the editing canvas. The same thing happened on Ubuntu on my computer. It is as if figma-linux were losing the connections with the real Figma.

There are at least 2 recently updated forks, looks like some stuff was updated.. but they have no prebuild packages. So need to download codebase and build it by youeself.

I tried the peff1235 fork which seems to be the most active one (updated Dec 12, 2025 with Electron 35 and UI3 support).

Unfortunately it still shows "Figma desktop app is out of date" after a clean build from the dev branch.

Console logs show multiple unhandled messages (setLocales, initLivegraph, setThemePreference, etc.) which suggests Figma updated their protocol and the desktop client doesn't support the new messages yet.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is there any working solution ?
