Is it possible to prevent editing of everything except checkboxes?

Some users in our app should not be allowed to edit the content of a text field, but they should be able to check items in a checklist.
We have the backend security for this, but we would like to prevent it in the frontend as well.

Is there a way to disable typing in the editor? Or alternatively, can we enable checkboxes in SuperReader?
