Unable to load new branch in VS code extension

Current Behavior

When I change the branch in the settings of the VScode extension, and re-download the code, the branch remains on "main"
Expected Behavior

The branch should switch to the branch set in the settings
Steps to Reproduce

be on main branch in vscode
create new branch in FF
change settings in vscode to new branch
pull code from FF
notice the branch hasn't switched

Reproducible from Blank

The steps to reproduce above start from a blank project.

In my case, when I download from a branch I can't perform any operation (pull or push are asking me to start a code editing session while starting a code editing session does nothing)

I created a separate issue here since it may not be related at all.
