the Fossify File Manager does have already a very helpful feature to sort also folders by size.

If the 'sorting' symbol and then "Sort by Size" will be selected, it takes a little time to analyze the size of folders and then folders will be well sorted by their total size.

In this case, it would be really an advantage if the size of the folders were also displayed if the “Sort by size” option is activated (and folder sizes are already calculated automatically in the background).

If "Sort by Size" is disabled (that means Sort by Name, Last modified or Extension is activated) then displaying the size of the folders can be deactivated automatically to reduce the impact on performance.

Displaying the size of selected folders in an Android file manager is a feature I have been looking for for many years.

It'll be better to make folder info customizable rather than tie it to a sorting criterion. It'll also solve #184.

Yes and No.

Displaying the size of the folders will have an impact on performance, because the size of all shown folders must be calculated.

In the case if the "Sort by Size" option is activated then the sizes of the folders have to calculated anyway.

If you would enable displaying the sizes of folders also with the other sorting options then it would slow-down the handling of the File Manager at all (e.g. by navigating through the folder structure).
 
If the folder information were customizable, users could decide for themselves.
For a possible “Show folder sizes” option, it would then be advisable to offer three different settings:
1.) Never
2.) Automatic, if "Sort by Size" is activated only (without additional performance impact)
3.) Always (with performance impact for other sorting options)
