Use of the CATEGORIES property

I'm using a a calDAV calendar with different event categories that is synched via DAVx5 . If I understand it correctly, in fossify calendar categories are implemented as "Termintypen" (German Version). Unfortunately, as far as I understand it, this seems to only allow each calendar to be one category, with all the events in that calendar being shown as one category that carries the name of the calendar.
Is there a way to use different categories within the same calendar?

In Fossify Calendar, events can be organized by calendars (aka "event types") but not categories.

The current behavior can be a bit confusing because the app imports/exports calendars or "event types" as categories in ICS files (to retain calendar info).

It doesn't help that Android doesn't support categories "natively", one has to use extended properties but if you'd like the app to support this, please create a feature request for it.

Thank you for your answer and the link! It says there in the extended properties section that currently only url is supported, does that mean having categories on android is at the moment simply not possible, or is it just that davx5 doesn't offer a standardised format?
Would it be possible to implement or would that be huge hassle/create lots of issues?

It is possible but it's not exactly standardized on Android. The link was for the categories section where it is mentioned that DAVx⁵ saves the event categories as an "extended property" in the Android database.
