Steps to reproduce the bug
Problems occur in at least Calendar, Contacts and Notes apps:
- In setting select "Enable automatic backups" option.
- Confirm backups occur next morning.
- Reboot phone.
Observe:
- Automatic backups do not occur next morning with various App/Android versions.
Expected behavior
Expect automatic backups to occur every morning even after rebooting phone/tablet.
Actual behavior
Some automatic backups do not occur. The behavior is inconsistent between Apps and Device/Android version.
Latest test results (just Calendar/Contacts):
Android 11 phone (Lively Jitterbug Smart3):
- Automatic Calendar backups DO happen correctly.
- Automatic Contacts backups DO happen correctly.
- (Not tested but I think Notes backups did not happen).
Android 12 phone (Motorola moto g pure):
- Automatic Calendar backups DID NOT happen.
- Automatic Contacts backups DID NOT happen.
Android 14 phone (Motorola moto g 5G 2024):
- Automatic Calendar backups DID NOT happen.
- Automatic Contacts backups DID NOT happen.
Android 14 tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite):
- Automatic Calendar backups DO happen correctly.
- Automatic Contacts backups DID NOT happen.
I believe the NOTES app had different behavior across devices but I have not been using it recently.
I have tried a number of different things:
- Generally I have not been able to determine specifics of the behavior since it takes multiple days for full testing.
- Problems have occurred since the initial Fossify versions.
- Not sure if the problems existed in SMT versions.
- Problems occur whether the device is connected to power or not overnight.
- Doing a manual backup does not restore functionality.
I think even these have been inconsistent between devices:
- I think just starting the app (different app/android combinations) once has restored functionality until next reboot (not tried recently).
- I think just entering setting has restored functionality in some App/Android combinations but I may be wrong.
- I think toggling the automatic backups option restored functionality in some App/Android combinations.
Currently I:
- toggle automatic backups off in settings
- exit settings
- exit app
- swipe app instance away
- restart app
- change automatic setting back on
- exit app
- swipe app away
- This seems to always restore automatic backup functionality until next reboot
- This is quite cumbersome to do
- I think I don't need this entire procedure for all App/Android combinations, but for consistency I do it everywhere.
