Minor tweaks to the numeric dial pad

Feature description

When editing a contact and selecting the phone number, the keyboard changes into a numeric dial pad.

This is great, but:

• I would replace the minus/dash sign (-) to the right with a plus sign (+). Perhaps I have a biased experience, but I never used “-“ in any phone number, while I use “+” for every new contact to type the country code.
• If the previous request is accepted, remove the plus sign from the list of symbols that appear when long-pressing “0”. If the previous request is not accepted, remove the minus sign from the same list because it is a duplicate of what already appears in the “main” dial pad.
• Perhaps, again, it is my limited experience and it is different in other countries, but I never used commas, dots or slashes in phone numbers (in addition to the minus sign). If it is the same for other people, maybe the list of items that appear when long-pressing “0” could be simplified.

I suspected something like that, but the dial pad that appears when editing a contact is different from the numeric keypad of Fossify Keyboard. And it is also different from the dial pad of Fossify Phone.

Could you share a screenshot of that? I'm confused because this is filed in the contacts repo, not the keyboard.

I used this repo because I thought it was specific of Fossify Contacts.
To see that: open the app (FC) -> tap “+” to add a new contact -> select the “Number” field. The usual keyboard switches to a numeric keypad. That is the one I would suggest to modify.

Ok. Thank you for moving to the right repo. Just to be sure, I would only modify the version of the numeric keypad that appears when specifically selecting the “number” field in Fossify Contacts.
The numeric keypad that appears in Fossify Keyboard after tapping “?123” and then “1234” for me is already perfect.

I think Fossify Keyboard should follow other keyboards and switch to a two-page phone number layout:

Here, long pressing 0 directly enters +, and other characters are available on the second page.

In my opinion, having two pages is not efficient. And the example reported above is too cluttered. Several characters appear in both pages and I am not sure about the utility of some of them.
If you really need parentheses and dots when typing phone numbers, I would suggest to use directly the numeric keypad of Fossify Keyboard (or a slightly modified version of it). I think it is much cleaner and better organised than the example reported above.

On Android, text fields can specify the type of input they support (Fossify Contacts is asking for phone). Keyboard apps can either choose to respect this or ignore it, but it's a good idea to respect it and provide an appropriate layout when requested. If we don't offer the complete set of symbols that might get used in phone-type fields in some app, we will break someone else's use case. So, even if not efficient, it has to be general.

So, kindly consider a layout identical to the numeric keypad of Fossify Keyboard, but:

• replace % with N
• replace ABC with .
• replace !?#& with #
• replace = with pause
• replace . with wait

If I am not mistaken, in this way you have all the symbols of the two-pages example in just one page and there is no need to long press anything. Each symbol is just one tap away.
