Backend and deployment on same Raspberry Pi

Hi, thanks a lot for all the great work, really cool what has been done in this project.

Now to my question: Would it theoretically be possible to have the backend running on the same Raspberry as the frame is deployed?

I'm asking since I want to deploy this cool little frame in an environment with only an IoT network (slow internet connection, a few smart bulbs etc and no computer whatsoever). I'm currently using a RaspberryPi Zero 2, but if that's not enough a regular Pi fits in my case.

I guess there are two options here:

• run the full backend on the pi and then deploy from the pi to the pi
• run the backend as part of the software that runs on the frame

How can I say it... I'm actually actively working towards the second option. I have a branch here that convert's the frame's frontend to use React, and then renders the full frame scene (editor, scenes list, apps, etc) on the device itself, emulating the API as needed. I got this to a proof of concept, and decided to instead work on HTTPS support, which I'd personally prefer the system to communicate over in this case.

Once I get the HTTPS support in, I'll resume work on making it all run on-frame. I also want to work on an curl .../install.sh | sh script that can run on a fresh pi os, which would ask you for your device, set up all the packages, and then install a precompiled binary for the platform. I can't really promise when any of this will be ready, and I know there will be many sidequests (e.g. an update system)... but I am actively working towards this now.

As for today, you can probably install the FrameOS backend on a Raspberry Pi. Deployment would have to be via SSH onto itself. I don't know if that's possible, but I suppose it could be. It'll probably run out of RAM during compilation on a pi zero w2, unless you use a compilation server (some linux box to ssh into, under settings). It might all work on a Pi Zero W2, but most likely you'll need more RAM for smooth sailing. You could also run the backend on a separate Pi 5.

I'll try to run both on the Zero first, but probably get a regular Pi in the long run.
