Dnsmasq not responding with the local ipv6 address of fritz.box

Hi, I have configured dnsmasq with default settings. When querying for fritx.boxn I get the following results:

nslookup fritz.box
Server:		192.168.178.1
Address:	192.168.178.1#53

Name:	fritz.box
Address: 192.168.178.1
Name:	fritz.box
Address: 2001:bf0:244:244::122

It returns the local IPv4 address, but the upstream IPv6 address from avm.

I can resolve this by adding an entry for the local IPv6 address to the hosts file. However, is this the expected behaviour for the default configuration? I'm worried I may have something not quite right.

I had a look through the existing discussions but could not find anything definitive. #955 perhaps seemed related, but I'm not sure.

It was very silly by avm to not use common .local domain like other manfacturers, but a random public:

I'm not quite sure I understand the point. Are you saying I should change the domain I use? i.e. changing the "domain" setting in dnsmasq to something like "local".

Although interesting, I'm not sure how the article you linked relates to the issue I described exactly.

When using the built-in DNS server, which is started by multid, the response looks like:

nslookup fritz.box
Server:		192.168.178.1
Address:	192.168.178.1#53

Name:	fritz.box
Address: 192.168.178.1
Name:	fritz.box
Address: fd44:afb2:3abe:0:7642:7fff:fede:b8d7

It replies with the local address for both IPv4 and IPv6. However, when using dnsmasq, by default, it only replies with the local IPv4 address.

I left everything as default ...

I guess there is a default config for:

192.168.178.1 fritz.box

But not for the IPv6 address.

I have added a host entry for the v6 address, and now it works.

I guess my question was, why is there a default config for the v4 address and not the v6?

Possibly this is the same issue as reported in #955

Great idea! Can you implement an auto-discover which read the ip and reloads dnsmasq on change?
