I've been using Dawarich ever since Google Timeline (web) went away. I put GPSLogger on my phone but I'm trying to decide if I should continue using this or just periodically use Phone Takeout.
Google is tracking me anyways so Phone Takeout makes sense. The issue is that it is a manual process.
GPSLogger is some what automated.
There is a flaw in the way it uploads: It saves data to files naming by date so it can be daily, monthly, etc. It then uploads the entire file at whatever interval you set. The problem is that my Dawarich instance is only on my LAN so when I'm not at home and not connected via VPN, it can't upload. This is normally fine unless I am out during a file increment. For example if I set it to Monthly and I am off the network between the end of the month and new month, I'll lose all data at the end of the month. If I set it to daily, I'd lose entire days. The author hasn't come up with a work around and says I should manually upload the file if this happens, but if I'm going manual, I might as well just use phone takeout
Battery usage: I can only imagine that it uses more battery than if the app werent running. Google will track me regardless. How much battery is hard to gauge.
I'm wondering what other people's experiences have been with using GPSLogger and/or Phone Takeout periodiclaly
