Possible to import child table of contents by reference

Is it possible to insert an include-like line in the summary.md file to import a child table of contents from another MD file? For example, we'd like to create an automated GutHub process that generates a child table of contents (for a just section of our doc site) and--at each regeneration--insert this generated table of contents portion into a specific location in our main doc site table of contents.
