🚀 Real-time Payment Status Updates via WebSockets

📋 Summary

This PR implements a robust WebSocket infrastructure using Socket.IO to deliver real-time updates for payment statuses and system notifications. This addresses issue #118 by eliminating the need for manual page refreshes and polling.

🛠️ Technical Implementation

Backend

  • SocketServer.ts: Singleton class that initializes Socket.IO with JWT authentication middleware.
  • RealTimeService.ts: Service layer wrapper to easily emit events from business logic (Payment/Billing services).
  • Room Management: Automatically joins authenticated users to private user_{id} rooms.

Frontend

  • useSocket.ts: Custom React hook handling connection lifecycle, auto-reconnection, and event subscription.
  • RealTimeNotifications.tsx: Component that listens for socket events and displays toast notifications.

🧪 Features

  • Real-time Payment Confirmation: Users receive instant success/failure alerts.
  • Secure Connections: Socket connections are authenticated via JWT.
  • Auto-Reconnection: Resilient client that handles network interruptions.
  • Type-Safe Events: Structured event payloads for consistency.

🔍 How to Test

  1. Start the backend server.
  2. Log in to the frontend application.
  3. Initiate a payment transaction.
  4. Observe the toast notification appearing instantly upon completion without refreshing.

📸 Impact

  • User Experience: Significantly improved by providing immediate feedback.
  • Performance: Reduced API traffic by removing client-side polling.
