@jawache @tmcclell @dtoakley @dtoakley-tw @seanmcilroy29 - Flagging this issue for you now; if we don't have the capacity to take these on, I think we should close the issue.

Some great work, but probably we need to mature our intake process first and loop back round.

I think if there is interest probably several things need to happen.

• Reach out to the project ask if they want to come under our umbrella?
• We need a GSF member to be the project lead and put the hours in to drive the project forward.

Which is a bit confusing, asking someone to donate a project they lead, so someone else can lead and you're PRs have to be approved by them :/

Perhaps flipping this around we should ask if taking over a project is the only way we can support it? Does it need to come under our umbrella? What would the benefit of coming inside the GSF tent be for someone who's outside the tent?

In OSS WG, @srini1989 had a great idea - could we fulfil this through academia? @tmcclell mentioned about also having a way for individual contributors to join.

So there are two issues:

• Carbon Aware Hack projects - do we invite them to work with us?
• That leads us to the overall issue - what do we do with non-GSF initiated projects, do we onboard them?

Tammy's view - discuss in OC, we need a PM to help us prioritize which ones we want to take on first; and a formal process for approving these things.

Dan Benitah mentioned - the problem of capitalising on the motivation of the projects; versus having a slow bureaucratic process. Also dived into whether we should hire contractors for features that we think are actually useful to the indirect recipients / our network.

@Willmish mentioned having a GSF PM to collaborate with students - to build academic contracts.

+1 from my side as well on academia support.

Probably we can see the onboarding process of schools/colleges/educational institutes with GSF and probably make it more seamless.

I keep on coming back to the idea of the green software experts program. If we had an MVP style GSE program we could direct effort towards OSS projects we wanted to support. I.e. if your OSS project comes under the GSF umbrella then there are these GSE's who work on your OSS projects to earn/maintain their GSE status.

I think also we should really discuss in the OC our rule that Project Leads have to be GSF members @tmcclell and @Sealjay. If you're not a GSF member donating your project to the GSF means giving up leading it and I think that's a very big ask. That would perhaps require a change to our charter or some complex thinking through edge cases.

I like the idea of GSE, but with the current size of the org - a lot of members, but fewer volunteers, it feels potentially early to do now? But I do think we should focus on it.

It goes back to the discussion of having a separate patterns WG that @greenhsu123 mentioned, and our decision not to do it; I heard a great phrase last night, "kill your darlings": https://www.masterclass.com/articles/what-does-it-mean-to-kill-your-darlings

Whilst I'd prefer a much less violent phrase, I feel like we should consider what we've been good at, and do more of it - so I think university partnering is a great way forward, and if we had hundreds of students working on our projects for their studies... would that help the issue?

Devils advocate: are we being overly bold in assuming that most devs would want their projects to be under the GSF umbrella? Could we support them in other ways?

I think these are all great ideas. Are we looking for project volunteers or prioritization? Is there a PM that can assist with driving our top priority? I'd like to see a discussion in the WG meeting if that's cool?

This is very cool, thank you! I like the UI and the idea. What's your perspective on working with the GSF - is it of interest to you, to have your project within the GSF, or are you happy keeping it separate?

I'm happy that you like the approach. As a GSF member, we are happy to receive feedback on the Carbon Reductor at the envite.
We would like to leave the repo separately. But if you are interested we can exchange ideas about the tool?
