A green software pattern is something that if applied to software would make an application use less energy, use less hardware or use cleaner energy.

There are many ways to contribute a pattern to the Green Software Patterns catalog.

I have only 5 mins

• If you've read/watched/heard something on the internet that looks like a Green Software Pattern then create a discussion issue in the Ideas category
• Please format the title with the role of person who would be interested in that pattern and then the name of the pattern starting with a verb. e.g. [Cloud Engineer] Optimize geographic placement of workloads for user locations
• Then in the body at at least the link to what you are referring to then a paragraph to explain the intent, see: [Cloud Engineer] Optimize geographic placement of workloads for user locations #33 for an example

I can spare 1 hr

• Take a look at our Guide to understand the sections a pattern needs to cover.
• Go through the post you've posted (or other peoples discussions) and try to flesh out any missing sections, it's ok if it's not perfect these are discussions and anything is better than nothing.
• Or you can help us organize, there are going to be discussions that are duplicates for example, we'd love some help figuring those out and trying to join the dots.
• Take a look at any issues or pull requests, see if anything triggers some thought, even fixing a spelling mistake helps!

I'd like to get a lot more involved

• We're always looking for people to help, this is a huge undertaking.
• We need to mature the pattern ideas in the discussions into patterns than be submitted into the catalog. Read the Guide and help convert the discussions that look ready for submission to pull requests in the catalog.
• If you are interesting in curating a whole catalog for a particular role or technology please reach out via discussion to the leads of this project.
