Use without expo

I am using RN v0.66 and have tried multiple times with a lot of troubles getting this package to work...

The example looks like it is not using Expo which is amazing, but I believe (please someone correct me if I am wrong) due to react-native-unimodules being deprecated it is no longer possible to use this package?
