You will see javascript error: Cannot read property 'status' of undefined

Also no maxfilesreached event, from documentation:
maxFilesize - in MB, if it exceeded it will fire the maxfilesreached event.

I've experienced this too—it happens whenever the file violates any of the restrictions in the uploader options (file too large, file type not in acceptedFiles, etc). At MaterialFileUploader:258 (2.0-rc6), status and statusText are retrieved from an xhr that's never initialized:

ErrorEvent.fire(this, convertUploadFile(file), new UploadResponse(file.xhr.status, file.xhr.statusText, response));

resulting in an NPE ("undefined") and preventing any user-specified error handlers from being called.

I was testing a workaround like this:

String status = file.xhr == null ? "0" : file.xhr.status;
String statusText = file.xhr == null ? response : file.xhr.statusText;
ErrorEvent.fire(this, convertUploadFile(file), new UploadResponse(status, statusText, response));

but this caused/allowed something else to blow up further down the line. Maybe an altogether different method should handle errors that occur before the file is posted.

Btw, this problem still exists in #260, which moves the NPE into UploadResponse.
