Add reboot button

Can we have a button to manually trigger the reboot of the ECU?

But to answer your question; In the latest firmware (2.1.23), APsystems has hardened the ECU-R-Pro user interface, making it impossible to restart the ECU by sending a command. So the functionality in this integration became useless and assigning a button to it became useless as well.

I hope APsystems will reintroduce the ability to soft-restart the ECU. I don't know what the status is on the ECU-C, but I suspect they disabled it there too.

There may still be the option to force a restart by changing the WiFi settings (as this was previously tweaked), but I find that a less charming solution. I don't think a smart plug on the ECU-C is an option. Anyway, I'm not quite sure yet what the best solution could be.

Yes, it did for both the ECU-R-Pro and the ECU-C. It's just that it feels somewhat stupid that the ECU's doesn't allow a proper soft-reboot option. I'm trying to find a neater solution but not too long. How stable is this new integration for you? Is it better than the old one?

It’s currently showing 0kWh produced today and none online instead of 10kWh+.
It’s using cached data, I assume from the night.
Needs a reboot I think.

I assume not, as I just power cycled it and everything came back.

That's a good sign. Anyway I'm restoring functionality to enable soft-reboot using WAN settings again. Have to do some testing which takes time and focus, hopefully this weekend available in a new release.

@ddaddy How are things running with 2.2.3? Do you still need a reboot button? I don't think it should be necessary to add one because it should be handled automatically.

It seems stable now. I've not had to manually reboot. So no need for a button.

Is there a way to see if/when this script performed an auto reboot?

When in debug mode, you'll able to see this - I can imagine that another method is preferred. Options are:

• warning in the logging
• extra reboot binary sensor
• a switch which turns off (previous versions had the switch but it was easily forgotten to turn it on again, so querying stopped)
• ...

I’d say add a LogBook entry as a minimum. A binary sensor would be nice.

You can try the developer tools to set the state of an entity like the Using Cache Counter. It might take max 5 minutes before the reboot initiates.

But why waiting for issues to reboot? If there is a (any) way of forcing reboot, I'd like to do it in advance.
Right now I use a smart plug to reboot every evening. Id like to avoid the smart plug and repurpose it...
I would provide a service ("action"?) which triggers reboot. No need for a button, if you prefer to hide it until a proper way is provided by apsystems.

Reboot button added from release v2.6.0 worth closing the discussion. You will now be able to use an automation to reboot preventively.

The switch type suggest it has 2 states which both could remain active, but obviously that is not the case for a reset. You can't be in the reset state for a certain time, just initiate it.
How does the switch behave when you flip it? Does it return to 'off' after the actual reset?
I honestly think a button would be the only possible and correct type here.

The switch will return to the off state after 2 seconds even if you turn it off inbetween it will turn on again until the reboot initiation is finished.

I slept on it and went to look at the button again. Maybe I need to get used to it because although it is not very visible that you have pressed it, the persistent notification does help. I am not completely sure... I'll try for a while.

In the current frontend, there is more visible feedback when pressing buttons, so your experience should be better. I'm happy you're trying it.

Maybe others can join as well, people who can actually use this button. My current ECU-R doesn't even support it. :-)

I agree that button is the natural element for this. A switch just wouldn’t make sense.
