Description
Summary:
Add “Deposit violates repository policies” as a selectable reason when deaccessioning a dataset, and link to the repository’s terms and policies for transparency.
Description:
The current list of deaccessioning reasons may not fully capture all the legitimate grounds for dataset removal. One common and important case—when a deposit violates repository terms of use, submission policies, or legal/ethical guidelines—is not explicitly listed. Including this as a standardized reason improves clarity and accountability in the deaccessioning process.
Proposed Solution:
Add a new deaccessioning reason: “Deposit violates repository policies.”
Provide an optional or automatic link to the relevant repository terms and policies (e.g., terms of use, submission guidelines, ethical standards)
Ensure this reason appears in public metadata or audit logs where appropriate.
Benefits:
Enhances transparency and trust in repository governance
Supports curators and administrators in documenting policy-based actions
Aligns deaccessioning workflows with institutional or legal compliance
Provides clearer communication to depositors and users about why content is removed
Optional Enhancements:
Allow administrators to customize or add specific policy references in the deaccessioning note
Enable localization/multi-language support for policy links
Include this reason in API responses or exports for auditing purposes
