Migrating to BridgeLink 4.5.3 MS SQL Server fails

Good day

I created a prototype environment on my laptop running Windows 11 to test the migration from NextGen 4.5.2 to BridgeLink 4.5.3 with MS SQL Server as the database with a few test channels and messages.
This guide was followed https://github.com/Innovar-Healthcare/BridgeLink/wiki/Migrating-to-BridgeLink.

The Administrator Launcher hangs the moment the "Loading statistics" message is displayed in the status bar.
I can navigate to the other windows and tabs and edit the channels if I navigate off of the dashboard before the statistics are loaded.
If I wait a while or deploy a channel the application hangs and only when the above message is displayed in the status bar.

This is the error message in the mirth.log file:

I tried to restore the channel settings from the NextGen 4.5.2 on a fresh installation of BridgeLink with a new SQL database.
The server configuration conversion message along with the confirmation message "Your configuration was successfully restored' was displayed.
This same symptom was observed, the channels are visible in edit mode but as soon as the statistic message is displayed in the dashboard the application hangs with the same error in the log.

Things I noted which does not appear to affect my issue:

• Had to correct the path to the appdata folder in the mirth.properties file copied as it referenced the Mirth Connect folder explicitly.
• After the migration the version numbers in the CHANNEL table were 4.5.3 whereas those in the CHANNEL_GROUP were still 4.5.2.

Has anyone encountered a similar issue or can give some advice as how to troubleshoot this?

Hello @johanmalherbe can you tell me what version of java you're running?

I created a windows environment to try to reproduce this. I wasn't able to see the same behavior.
I created a windows VM (I didn't have Win11, but used the latest Windows Server), Java 17, SQLServer, MC 4.5.2

Some notes:

• mirth.properties in the original MC install directory for a fresh 4.5.2 install didn't have hard-coded references to appdata. Is this custom to your installation or perhaps a hold over from older upgrades through the years?
• I think the errors you are seeing with the debug are related to Java 17. which requires users to manually update the blservice.vmoptions file. Now that v4.5.4 is out, we're strongly suggesting that version as it comes with the JVM Options pre-configured.
• we will likely update the documentation to not copy over all of appdata in the future. You only really need the server.id file out of there. That's only really used to make sure your channel stats show the same as they did before (messages will still be available).

I am using Microsoft OpenJDK 17.0.16.
The issue appears to have been the missing Java settings in the blservice.vmoptions file.
I rolled back and repeated the process migrating from MC 4.5.2 to BL 4.5.4.
The original BL mirth.properties file was changed with the following values from the MC file: version, keystore.storepass, keystore.keypass, and the database connection details.
The blservice.vmoptions file was unchanged as the first four lines were identical to the MC file, and it included the Java settings.
The migration was done successfully!

Something I noted was that at the end of the installation the service was started even though the checkbox to start BridgeLink was unchecked.
