Description
Regarding this statement: "A handful of corporations control the AI"
- Writing "the AI" implies there is only one*. We already have numerous competing systems, with more available all the time. At least, write "the AIs" (plural).
- I can right now download any of hundreds of models from Huggingface. No one is going to control my Mac Mini. And I'm a hacker, so I've worked thru the "Develop ... LLM from scratch", and I'm sure every current and potential CS PhD is experimenting with novel systems.
- China has numerous AI systems, and most developed countries are looking at some sort of sovereign AI.
- Even a "handful" of companies providing AI services will be enough to keep them somewhat honest and drive down prices.
- Isn't the big 2027 scare all about the inability to "control AI" because it develops a mind of its own.
Also, I just retired this year, and let me tell you not having a job is great if you have enough money. How much is "enough"? -- YMMV but that needs to be defined. [Edit] If one robot/agent can work 24/7 and faster than a human, why can't every person enjoy the wealth created by one robot/agent, which should be ample.
Speaking of Medicare, why not require robots and agents to pay Social Security and Medicare just like humans? That would level the playing field a bit, and people can retire early. Heck, pass a law that robots/agents pay enough of a tax to support 3 people. Why should robot-equivalent-earnings (REE) not be taxed like humans? If we don't do this the capitalists realize their dream of free labor and run away with the game.
- In English, "the" is the definite article, indicating some one such object.
