Add option to add keyboard layouts with simple GUI, by right-clicking on waybar icon for keyboard.

It would be very nice and user friendly if there was an option to add different keyboard layouts and variant by right clicking on icon in waybar, through some simple GUI menu, which will then wirte chosen layout settings to hyprland config files.

If someone could add this it would be awesome.

By the way, your Arch Hyprland install script is awesome, I just install Arch minimal within few minutes, clone your script and run it, and I have great looking system in under half a hour... great work!

I don't know how to make it by myself, but I think it should work sometnih like this:

1. Something that is watching events on right clicking keyboard icon in waybar
2. When it is clicked, a very simple GUI element appears with "Add Keyboad Layout" button
3. Upon clicking on that button, script reads all layouts and variants existing on system and shows them in list-view alphabetically sorted.
4. Upon selecting one of variants, all the necessary stuff is written in config files, menu dissapears.
5. Since there is more then one variant now, some default changing layout bind is made such as Alt-Shift for cycling added variants and also written in hyperland bind config.

Just a suggestion... or any other way that could make adding more kb layouts more user-friendly...

re: keyboard, there are no "variants" stored on the system. They don't exist in some database or file to be read. In addition there are other keyboard settings as well. The bigger issue is how to test all the possible combinations.

I found that

man xkeyboard-config

gives all info that is needed and maybe can be used to feed info to script? Only dependency to be installed is man for this to work.

It is formated as some kind of table and contains a lot more info, so the info on just layouts and variants could be extracted with awk / sed...

I am not so much in bash scripting and hyprland internals, so if someone could make some simple script for this it could be gread to have some simple gui to manage layouts by clicking on keyboard incon on waybar... just like that nice thing for choosing wallpaper, or for waybar layouts...

I dont use another keyboard but when I test, I added ru for example, it switches and input in russian

but if I add kr, it shows it changes, but input is not changing. This has led me to think that it also needs to have also locale or something

if I add gb (to get £ sign) it gets the gb layout

If I just add

us, rs

I get US and I get Serbian Cyrillic (љњертзуиопшђасдфгхјклчћжѕџцвбнм....)
But for Serbian latin (which is basically english alphabet minus and plus some letters) I don't know how to add that
third variant...

I want to know what exactly I have to write in kb_layout = .... and kb_variant or kb_options...

to get those:

1. US standard
2. Serbian (Cyrillic)
3. Serbian (Latin)

I don't know exact what I have to add here for all three to work... and I don't know is just editing that one file enough... if it is enough for Serbian Cyrillic to work, it should be enough for Serbin Latin too, but I just cant find what exactly to add there...
