Steam Desktop Authenticator asks for phone code, cannot log in

I want to log into my Steam account in Steam Desktop Authenticator. I enter my username and password, but then it asks for a phone number and I don’t know what to put there. It basically asks me for a code from a phone number. Do I need to link my Steam account with a phone number or what? Can I set up Steam Guard without a phone number?

You'll usually receive the code via email.

i’m not getting anything on email, it’s about the phone, like if i have an account do i really need to add a phone number i think it only works like that, you add your phone number on steam and then use the steam guard desktop authenticator.. i think..

short version, steam needs to have a phone number added or it won’t work, that’s what i think

None of my accounts have a phone number associated with them. So you'll have to try again, or maybe it just doesn't work with this account
