There are currently no plans to move away from utf8proc in Julia as far as I know. So I wouldn't worry about the "near" future. Of course, in 10–20 years, who knows. But the history of free/open-source software suggests that once a tool is around for long enough and becomes widely enough used, usually updates continue in some form (even if not by the original maintainers). |
