[QUESTION] MatchPassive vs MatchActive

What exactly is the difference between the two?

I currently have ASF setup with MatchPassive (as far as I know, just waiting on new authenticator trade lock to end).
From what I've read, both Passive and Active matching will take duplicate Emoticons/Profile Backgrounds/Trading Cards and trade them in return for whatever I do not yet have.

Am I right in my thinking? If not, could you please explain the difference in a non-technical but detailed matter.

If I am correct in my thinking and you have time to spare to write a non-technical but detailed breakdown of the difference between the two modes, that would be greatly appreciated.

To be precise, passive matching is equal to enabling SteamTradeMatcher, while active matching is MatchActively.

The difference is very simple. Enabled SteamTradeMatcher means that your bot is going to accept fair neutral+ trade offers that the bot receives (from other people). Enabled MatchActively means that your bot is going to send such fair trade offers to other ASF bots available on public listing.

Passive matching therefore depends on other people sending you trade offers, which usually are focused on their needs, but might occasionally also help you to move closer to badge completion. Active matching is focused on you moving closer to badge completion, so every trade made there and accepted by the other party actually moves you closer to badge completion.

You can use none, one or both of those options at the same time. Both of them also highly depend on ASF 2FA to be present, since accepting as well as sending trade requires a confirmation. Note that MatchActively requires paid resources to operate, as per the wiki - no such requirement for passive matching.

If you agree to being listed in our listing, by enabling SteamTradeMatcher and not refusing PublicListing, as specified above, we'll temporarily store some of your Steam account details on our server in order to provide the expected functionality.

Currently:

In order to be listed, you have a set of requirements to meet. At the minimum, you must have allowed PublicListing in RemoteCommunication (default setting), SteamTradeMatcher enabled in TradingPreferences, public inventory privacy settings, an unrestricted account and ASF 2FA active. Additional requirements include 2FA active since at least 15 days, last password change more than 5 days ago, lack of any account limitations like lockdowns, economical bans and trade bans. Naturally, you must also have at least one (tradable) item in your inventory from specified MatchableTypes, such as trading cards. In addition to that, bots with more than 500000 items are not accepted due to excessive overhead, we recommend to split your inventory across several accounts in this case.

Okay this should be my last response depending on if any more details create more questions.

The logs show OnPersonaState() Failed due to error: IsEligibleForListing: False and I believe that's because I'm on my 15 day cool down from recently adding ASF 2FA.

Is there any benefit to adding the SteamGroup as a RemoteCommunication option or is it just PublicListing that I need for what I want.

It's up to you which remote communication options you want enabled. If you want to show up in public listing, then of course PublicListing needs to be enabled. If you don't know better, you should follow ASF recommendation in this manner, which is also mentioned in the config section:

Unless you have a reason to edit this property, you should keep it at default.

Default value is 3, which means all options are enabled.

Yes, most likely. It's possible to temporarily enable Debug mode in ASF to see exact reason if you have a need to, just don't forget to disable debug mode after you're done.
