Exams niggles #858

I am very happy about the exams feature, but I will collect some niggles here to make things better.

  • The exams need some kind of introduction. The simple "select exam" button is very inconspicuous and can be overlooked easily. Maybe add a text like "Old exams are a good source of practice materials. We provide all old exams here. Note that exam style has changed over the years, and the younger exams may be better models for the upcoming exams. Also note that the fact that a topic in the course has not been covered in an exam does not preclude it from being in the upcoming exam".

  • The practice problems are in a top-level list whereas exams are in a drop-down menu is quite disparate, maybe think about a more equal design (though they are organized quite differently I admit).

  • the selection box is quite uninformative it should have the course acronym and the date. Also the ordering is not consistent.

Image
  • it would be nice to have the exam title (e.g. AI-1 Retake WS24/25 from 28.3. 2025) consistently over the problems, so that we have some orientation.
Image
  • all problems seem to have 1 point, which was not the case in the exam. In the exams, the points are usually given to the subproblems, to indicate the relative weight. It would be nice, if we could have that in the practice problems as well. This is particularly important, since the points reflect the time (1pt = 1 minute) we estimated for solving the problem.

  • I am not sure that shuffling the questions is a good idea for the exams (and the practice problems in general).

  • Give access to the PDF versions of the exams (proably as a "PDF" button like to the course notes/slides).

  • ... more to come ...
