STRANGE REQUEST

I know this may sound like a strange request, but I’ve faced many issues and recurring errors while trying to install EJBCA without using containers.

After spending a lot of time troubleshooting, I managed to successfully install EJBCA 9.1.1 with PostgreSQL. However, when trying to reinstall it later, the same errors came back. I managed to solve most of them, but there are still some persistent issues.

My question is:
Do you have a complete, step-by-step installation guide (preferably in one PDF file) for installing EJBCA 9.1.1 with PostgreSQL without using containers (Docker)?

It would really help to have an official, consolidated guide for clean installations.

The complete guide is the Install guide. What issues did you encounter? More Postgres specific?

This means that WildFly has not started up with EJBCA properly deployed. You can look at the server.log to see what the issue is. The most common issue is a database configuration preventing EJBCA from deploying (as it can not connect to the database). The server.log will tell the details of what fails.

I've encountered multiple and different errors during the setup. I had previously installed EJBCA 9.0.0 on an Ubuntu server using unofficial documentation — I believe the author based it on your official documentation. After solving many issues, I managed to get it working.

Later, I also successfully installed EJBCA 9.1.1 by resolving a number of errors after using the same documentation with 9.0.0. However, when I tried to redo the installation from scratch to create a step-by-step PDF guide (so others could install it easily without needing knowledge), I started getting new and different errors.

If you have a simple and official PDF document with all the necessary commands for installing EJBCA with postgresql, it would be incredibly helpful and save a lot of time.

I never recommend unofficial documentation because while well meaning, these are typically written once and then not updated so they quickly become stale and you have to understand the differences to newer versions (of EJBCA, database, OS, etc) yourself.

The official installation guide have all the steps needed. Yes there are multiple options you have to choose from, but that is because PKI is used in thousands of different use cases.

If you want an easy installation you should really use the container. It's not just for simple things, but for everything from a 5 minute simple test installation to a multi-node clustered Kubernetes production deployment.
