External Thread

Description

Create external threads on a body. This is typically used on rods or custom-made bolts.

Functionality

1. User selects the External Thread button.
2. The user selects the cylindrical edge they want the thread to start.
3. The user specifies the thread size (standard sizes dropdown is typical)
4. The user selects the length in which they want the thread to run.
5. Confirm.

NOTE

You'll notice that the threads are actually not rendered in OnShape in the images below. This is actually typical for CAD software. Rendering the actual threads themself is not all that helpful except in pictures. In CAD drawings, the thread is not shown, but rather called out using a note and pointed to the area in which the threads need to be.
