June 2024 - Tesla takes top spots in Norway

The June auto market saw plugin EVs take 85.3% share in Norway, down from 90.9% year on year. BEVs took 80.0% share, down from 82.2% YoY, despite volume growth. Overall auto volume in June was 17,512 units, up 12.5% YoY, while year-to-date volume remains 8% down. The best selling BEV was the Tesla Model Y, with the Tesla Model 3 as runner up.

I'm actually surprised that BYD hasn't flooded the electric car market in Norway yet.

I think they will continue to play it slow and steady. They just launched the Seal, Seal U, and Dolphin into Norway in the past 3 months. It looks like they haven't launched any of their own BYD Dealer locations yet, instead selling though independent car dealers, which suggests they are still on a slow and steady strategy. Probably also still tweaking their in-car software (ADAS and more) to match the European tastes / expectations.

No doubt they will gradually increase Norway sales, perhaps towards becoming a top 5 brand a few years from now. Not sure if they will easily overtake VW, Volvo/Polestar, or Tesla, but certainly have potential to do so in the long term.
