Installing Basset, basset check fails with cURL error 1: Received HTTP/0.9 when not allowed

On upgrading from 4 to 5 the backpack:install fails on basset::check with

   INFO  Checking Backpack Basset installation.  

  Initializing basset check ................................................................................................................... DONE  
  Checking cache storage ...................................................................................................................... DONE  
  Fetching a basset .......................................................................................................................... ERROR  

   ERROR  cURL error 1: Received HTTP/0.9 when not allowed (see https://curl.haxx.se/libcurl/c/libcurl-errors.html) for http://localhost/storage/basset/vendor/backpack/basset/tests/Helpers/basset-test.js.  

I'm using sail, laravel 11, which is all working fine. I'm guessing the HTTP response protocol HTTP/0.9 is wrong but am a bit stumped after much searching. Is there something I need to configure with sail/docker?

Did you check .env configuration as our docs show.

Can you share with me composer.json to check if version is ok.
