xtask is heavy and unpractical

In my aiming to ""simplify"" the installation of RaR by developing a Rust tool (for managing every uses cases easily)... The xtask is actually bigger and bloated... Maybe python scripts or shell script is finally a better solution... Finally

I found some error during "cargo xtask build".
[2025-08-29T16:22:55Z ERROR xtask xtask] No such file or directory (os error 2)

May be this is related with renaming sr to dosr??

I guess you are trying to install it on Fedora (and package it too). Fedora is not my main distribution, so I likely mislisted the required system dependencies in the xtask program (here). I should set up a workflow to test on various distributions when pushing to main...

Anyway, if you want to propose RootAsRole for Fedora repositories, I do not recommend using the xtask tool at all.

Basically, the xtask binary does the following:

    Dependency Step :
        Installing necessary dependencies considering if compiling from source.
    Build Step :
        Building dosr and chsr binaries
    Install Step :
        Copying dosr and chsr binaries to /usr/bin
        Setting all capabilities on /usr/bin/dosr
        Setting owners and permissions on /usr/bin/dosr
    Configuration Step :
        Deploying /etc/pam.d/dosr for PAM configuration
        Deploying /etc/security/rootasrole.json for configuration
        Setting immutable on /etc/security/rootasrole.json if filesytem supports it

This entire process is essentially what a package management process does (yum, apt, dnf...).

Fedora seems to follow a similar policy to Debian, which prefers clear and readable installation scriptlets. So doing something like I did on Debian will be much better accepted than executing a blind binary.

I don’t know exactly how Rust packages are managed on Fedora, but I’m happy to help if you need more help!
